첫번째 프로젝트 ‘메모리즈 파트1, 사라지는 것들, 기억, 길들여지거나 남는 것’에서는 대만의 언어들을 중심으로 진행하였다. 대만의 언어들 중 민남어와 객가어를 중심으로 대만의 공용어가 짧은 시간 안에 만다린(화어)로 바뀌어 가고, 일상에서 익숙했던 언어가 더 이상 익숙하지 않은 언어로 변해가는 과정과 보이지 않게 작동했던 통제들을 개인들의 기억을 통해서 드러낸다. 각 에피소드별 화면은 시간이 갈수록 점점 어두워져 말하는 사람들을 구별하기 힘들게 된다. 이를 통해 전체 안에 위치하게 된 개인들을 드러낸다.
The first project of Memories Project, Memories part1, Disappearing, disappeared focuses on Taiwanese languages. Taiwanese languages were various in the past, however, while those languages went through 20C, many were disappeared, and some are endangered because of drastic social change.
This work reveals the process of how main languages replaced to the other languages and how many languages are disappeared through individuals’ memories. Interviewees are the 40s’ to 80s’ using Hakka or Hokkien for their first languages. At the end of each episode, the footage is getting dark, which quite hard to recognize individuals in it.
