<햇볕과 밤의 중간지대>

<햇볕과 밤의 중간지대>에서는 30대부터 80대까지 세대별로 섭외한 제주해녀들이 이야기하는 해녀들의 이야기다. 직업으로서 의미가 점점 퇴색되어가는 과정이 담겨있는 그들의 목소리를 통해 우리가 인식하지 못하는 사이 소멸하는 노동, 그리고 그 안의 사람들에 대해 이야기하고자 하였다. 서로를 돕던 손이 사라지는 것과 같이. 제목은 김승옥 작가가 ‘앞이 보이지 않는 짙은 안개’를 묘사한 문장으로 현 상황을 은유적으로 표현하고자 차용하였다.
'Between Sunshine and Night' brings together Jeju haenyeo from their thirties to their eighties, each representing a different generation, to speak in their own voices about the lives of women divers. Through voices that embody the gradual fading of the profession’s meaning, the work seeks to address forms of labor that disappear before we even notice, as well as the people whose lives are embedded within them—like the vanishing of the hands that once reached out to help one another. The title is borrowed from a phrase by the writer Kim Seung-ok describing “a dense fog through which nothing ahead can be seen,” in ‘Record of a Journey to Mujin, ’ and is used here as a metaphor for the present condition.
