<유령들>

<유령들>에서는 경기도 포천의 노동요 <방아타령>을 배경음으로 제작한 영상 작품이다. <방아타령>은 지역 보존회에서 보존을 하는 노래로 더 이상 노동의 현장에서 불리지 않는다. 협동을 하며 우리들 눈에 보이는 노동이 아닌, 디지털 노동 등 보이지 않는 곳으로 사람들이, 노동이 배치된다. 반면 우리는 클릭 몇 번으로 노동을 주문한다는 것조차 인식하지 못하는 사이 노동을 주문한다. 노동요를 부르는 목소리가 서서히 사라지고, 그 자리를 보이지 않는 노동을 주문하는 오류와 경고 사운드가 덮어버리듯이 우리가 우리 스스로를/ 그들을 유령으로 만들어버리는 것은 아닐까?
'The Ghosts' is a video work set against “Bang-a Ta-ryeong(Song for Mill),” a labor song from Pocheon in Gyeonggi-do, Korea. Though the song is preserved today by a local conservation society, it is no longer sung at actual worksites. As labor shifts away from visible, collective forms of work into unseen spaces such as digital labor, both workers and their labor are increasingly removed from view. Meanwhile, we continue to summon labor with only a few clicks, often without even realizing that this is what we are doing. As the voices singing the labor song slowly disappear, replaced by the error and warning sounds through which invisible labor is called upon, the work asks whether we are, in the end, making ghosts of ourselves—and of them.
